Knorr - Dollar Option for Backpack Meal

We are always on the lookout for meal options for hiking, camping, or backpacking. Anything goes, from home made to prepackaged, and combinations of the two. This time we were thinking cheap. And Knorr provides just that. Their packaged noodle and rice dishes are great for on the trail. Easy to make, and doable without the milk and butter called for in the recipe. Adding other items like fresh veggies or possibly wild plants, or other processed foods such as tuna are all good. The Knorr packages offer cheap, quick, and fun experimental meal options. In the middle of the night while out camping, a bear approaches Sandra and Normans tent. An argument ensues as it seems Sandra has brought some food into the tent. But is it really food after all and did it attract the bear? See more on www.tac.tv

Tips To Keep Food Safe to Eat When Going Camping

Do you have any experience of keeping your food safe to eat when you go camping? Below are some tips which will help you have a safe and joyable camping trip.

First, you will want to plan ahead of time the food you are going to eat and when. By doing this it will help you determine whether or not you should freeze an item before putting it in your camp cooler. Also remember to plan how you are going to cook your food and make sure your have the proper equipment along to do so.

Second, you want to keep everything clean to prevent bacteria from coming in contact with your food. Make sure you wash your hands prior to handling any food and after handling raw meats or raw eggs. If you place all your raw meats in plastic bags it will help keep the juices away from your other foods.

And third, keep your food cold.

Make sure your cooler has plenty of block ice for your camping trip. Remember to keep your cooler in the shade and even place a blanket on top of the cooler for extra insulation. It is a good idea to bring a separate cooler for snacks and drinks. This will keep your main food cooler colder by not having to get in it as often.

So, as you can see, following these three food safety tips will keep your food safe and make your next camping trip much more enjoyable.

Ozark Trail Mess Kit from Walmart Low Cost Basic Mess Kit $5

A very basic but functional mess kit for anyone prepping or starting out on a budget. Only about -6 at Walmart. For an additional few dollars you can add several nice additions to the kit to round it out. Food (rice or instant potatoes) could be stores inside but I prefer to keep other gear in my mess kit

Dehydrated Spaghetti Meal Great for Backpacking

With the warmer weather approaching and talk of much more camping and backpacking in the air, it seemed a great time to begin preparing food ideas for the months ahead. Dehydrated foods are great for hiking and packing in that they need no special care, such as refrigeration. If a meal is not used one week, it is good for the next. Initially, some weight might be saved, but water, either carried or obtained along the way is a necessity. We cooked up excess spaghetti and meat sauce, left it sit overnight in the fridge. Dehydrated for about 6 hours and put it up in vacuum seal bags. Some of the bags we perforated by the hard sharp noodles, so next time we will put it in a small sandwich bag first, then the vacuum bag. Within days, we were on the Appalachian Trail and had an opportunity to cook that batch on a homemade alcohol stove. The first round was ever so slightly wet, but had good texture and taste. The second round of cooking was just about spot on water to dehydrated food. Please visit www.usframecrew.com http
